The problem with 5-string violas and violins is that it is difficult to balance the tone across all the strings. You usually end up with either a weak and tinny E or a mushy C. This instrument does a good job of keeping the tone balanced, projecting well, and sounding neither too bright nor too dark. Four-string players should have no trouble transitioning. String spacing at the nut is wide enough to play without making the neck too broad for small-handed people like myself. The bow suits the instrument and appears to be of good quality. The customer service has been excellent. I highly recommend this instrument and this company.
